The PlayStation 5 had its biggest month in Dec of 2022 and expects to have rid itself of the supply chain issues from semiconductor shortages and the pandemic.
"We truly appreciate the support and the patience of the PlayStation community as we managed unprecedented demand amid global challenges over the past two years," Jim Ryan, the President and CEO of Sony said in a statement.
Sony has now sold over 30 million PlayStation 5 units worldwide and looking to have the consoles available in more and more stores as the year progresses.
"Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally starting from this point forward," said Jim Ryan.
Besides getting your hands on one of the hardest sought out consoles for the last year or so, keeping the console working in tip top shape is the newest task for those who have been able to purchase Sony's next gen console. Some console repair experts say that using the PS5 vertically could actually be what ultimately ends up damaging your console permanently.
Is using PS5 vertically causing damage the console?

Sony's PS5 is a device you can use either horizontally or vertically. With the console being as big as it is, the option of using it vertically or horizontally is actually a plus. With some hardware repair experts having the opportunity to troubleshoot consoles that users have had issues or decided to part with say that using the PS5 vertically could most likely be the reason it ultimately quits on you or has issues from the jump.
What the console repair experts like 68Logic are finding is that using the PS5 vertically can cause the liquid metal to spill out on the motherboard and other internal parts causing severe damage. From what internal looks have shown, the PS5’s should have a good seal between the APU and its cooler to prevent any leak but in some of the units with issues, leaking liquid metal is outside of the seal.
When the console is standing vertically, liquid metal could move more and or leak causing damage. If your PS5 sits horizontally, the liquid metal should stay in place keeping its thermal properties to help keep the unit cool. Using the PS5 standing up vertically there is a risk that the unit could be tipped over causing this or just gravity alone could drain down from a poor seal around the APU. To be on the safe side... (no pun intended), lay your console down to where the unit does not move too much, and you could be saving yourself an early issue if anything at all. While Sony has not confirmed this to actually be an issue, you can take a look for yourself here for TheCod3r, a technician who specializes in PS5 repair and what his take is on the issue. Mainly due to him being at the forefront of bringing this issue to light.
